Granted, I had to replace the shoulder strap after the first year, and the wire mesh on the exterior uber-pocket quickly wore through during a trip to san francisco (a bit of guerilla glue and a few torn up socks healed the corners quickly and to this day), and yes, I've had to sew the handle back on twice in the nearly 3 years I've owned it, but this is absolutely the best bag I've ever owned... If you want your home office on your shoulder (I carry about 30 pounds of gear in mine), or if you want the greatest selection/variety of pockets ever assembled in a shoulder bag, then this sucker is it.

I love this bag. I was sick of carrying around everything in my pockets. Where I live there is a stigma attached to guys who wear bags. Don't ask me why. This bag is loaded with pockets to organize just about everything except larger water bottles. The only downside I find for this bag is the main twist latch that holds the front flap popped off within a few days. At the time of popping, I had a computer and book loaded in. Fortunately I found the part of the latch on the floor. I fixed this problem by buying and using a product called JB Weld from a hardware store. It chemically welded the latch, and I have never had a problem since. Also, the hardware store has the same latch if I ever needed to replace one I could. I recommend this bag. I have the Olive green color.

I teach at local college-- use it to carry class materials. Great 'briefcase" -- but better than regular commercial bags.

Works fine for storage and transport of the many boat plans and blue prints I have,as for my laptop fitting in it,a Toshiba Satellite, it isn't going to happen in this lifetime. Useful anyway for the price.

I use this bag to store all of my piltoting books, charts and computers. The many different pockets keep flimsy charts safe and allow me to efficiently grab something in the cockpit. Sewing of the straps seems fairly durable for everyday use, but I wouldn't load this bag down with 5 textbooks and a laptop. Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase, its a great bag for the low price!

I use this bag everytime I go out. It carries a spare change of clothes, books and other items and has lots of room to spare. The shoulder strap is extremely comfortable and adjusts to every length. I couldn't be happier with this bag. :)

I bought this back to hold a number of books, dice, maps, pens & pencils for use in my hobby of roleplaying games.
It looks a great bag and can fit in my Eee PC, power leads and several books.
My only concern is that the shoulder strap is attached to the top flap rather than the sides of the bag - this puts considerable strain on the flap fastener. Hopefully it will stand up to the weight I am carrying around, but I would have preferred the weight to have been taken by the bag itself, rather than the catch.

Comments about M-51 ENGINEERS FIELD BAG -BLK:
Very comfortable/adjustable - the fabric is a tad rough, so not best match w/ a tank top, but other than that, quite useful. Many pockets for pads of paper/books of all sizes, and fits my laptop snugly. Thinner than regular messenger bag, but not too small to look like a "man purse."

Comments about M-51 ENGINEERS FIELD BAG -BLK:
The bag itself is functional and will serve it's intended purpose. The clasp that secures the front cover is of poor quality and did not last two days of normal use. I would not recommend this item based on the clasp.
Comments about M-51 ENGINEERS FIELD BAG -BLK:
I use this bag to carry my agenda, a notebook, TI89 calculator, and a few other small items to and from work (I'm an electrical engineer - found it very fitting). The bag is great, very durable and aesthetically rugged enough to not make you look like you're carrying a metro man-purse. Only "con" is that it's not deep enough (front-to-back depth) to hold any bottled drinks - not necessarily a con, just would be the only improvement on the next design that I think people would find useful.

Comments about M-51 ENGINEERS FIELD BAG -BLK:
Plenty of room, abundant pockets. I'm a veteran, used to carrying everything I might need with me everywhere. Enough room in this bag for it all. Heavyweight material, strong stitching and seams, pockets sized for a big variety of items. Wish I had owned this on a trip to South America years ago.

This is a great bag for both work and personal use. Many times I am in the field with the need to carry notebooks, camera, phone, GPS, pens and other items. They all fit in this bag perfectly. My 15" Powerbook will even fit in the bag when necessary. The strap could use more padding but overall a very good buy. I could see this bag being of great use for school. Something different than the standard backpack.

Plenty of pockets and room to store all your gaming goods, like books, minis, dice, pencils and so on. One of the tabs on a zipper broke off when I pulled on it, but other than that, it's fine.

Bought as gift for engineer relative. Has a lot of pockets for an assortment of supplies, instruments, and papers. One handy bag to keep items organized and provide easy transport between home and work.

Actually I use it as a man-purse for flying. Room for all my stuff without getting into my carry-on bag. It looks pretty much "hetero" so us "manly men" can pull it off when not in Europe. Very thick material. Should last forever.

Comments about M-51 ENGINEERS FIELD BAG -BLK:
I really looked forward to having a bag in which I could carry everything, and this can do it with more pockets than I could ever use. [...] Then the clasp holding the main flap came out. Really cheaply made, has four prongs which poke through holes in the fabric (no grommets or anything like that, just holes like a pocket knife would make in canvas.) and wrap around a thin piece of metal. Still like the bag, but would not recomend it to a friend. Also, when purchased, there was an offer for free dog tags. I asked if I could substitute tag silencers for my nephew, (going to Iraq in June) but if not go ahead and send dog tags. Got neither. Not super heartbroken, but not thrilled.

Comments about M-51 ENGINEERS FIELD BAG -BLK:
The primary storage is suprisingly spacious and the additional pockets are great for all kinds of stuff, from pens, notepads, magazines, to laptop power cables and accessories when I'm lugging that around. The bag is comfortable enough to wear for hours and hours and seems like it'll hold up for ages.

I use this bag to tote everything on the bus to work. It holds all my gadgets (PDA, phone glasses, laptop, etc) and my reading material. Everything has a place and when I need a little extra space--it has that too.

I ride the train to work and needed a bag that could hold a newspaper, umbrella, a paperback novel and various files for work. This bag does a good job at keeping those various items separate. It almost has too many pockets and it is tempting to haul around unnecessary items just so that 80% of the pockets aren't empty. It definitely doesn't look like a feminine bag.
The two things I don't like are that the strap is pretty weak and the bottom fastener has a difficult time closing if you don't plan out your load well. These two issues are not enough to make me dislike the bag though, which has gotten me numerous compliments from coworkers and friends.

I am using this to carry information just about everything. I put my Boat records, charts, charting tools, fishing licenses etc. in it. It stores nicely in my center console of the boat. I would like to have had more protection against the elements.

Amazing bag. My wife had gotten me this bag for Christmas. I couldn't ask for a better all around bag to carry around my work related items as well as my personal stuff. It is comfortable, just my style and extremly roomy without being bulky or being this oversized mess. My brother fell in love with it when he saw so I went and bought one for him as well.
Comments about M-51 ENGINEERS FIELD BAG -BLK:
I found this bag while looking for something to carry my 13" macbook and school text books in. It is the perfect size for my macbook and two or three medium sized, or one or two large, text books. However, any laptop bigger than 13" might have trouble fitting in the main compartment with the flap closed. For my purposes it is the perfect size.
The dozens of smaller pockets are great for holding my computer's peripherals, pens, papers, lunch, ipod, and anything else I can squeeze in them.
The construction is very sturdy, but the clasp that holds the front flap down seems like it could break under enough pressure. To it's credit, though, I've had the bag for about three weeks, using it everyday, and the clasp has held up so far. If it does break it wouldn't be too hard to add a button or something to secure the flap.
It is comfortable to wear and looks great. I highly recommend this bag to anyone looking for a compact, rugged, affordable bag for daily use.

I really love this bag and have gotten many comments on it. It is very durable and roomy for everything that you need! The only thing is that the strap is a little uncomfortable as it provides little support if you do alot of walking. Other than that, I love it.

Great bag to carry a Macbook around. While you pay a high price for all things Mac, this bag is reasonably priced and perfectly fits your notebook. Looks great and has lots of space for other stuff as well.

The bag is truly great for commuting. I ride a bus and a train to/from work, and it has ample space for a book or two, an umbrella, a smallish laptop, and other random accessories. The price is incredible for what you get, and I've been using it for a little over a month now with zero durability concerns. There's a reason this thing is considered the best!
