This shovel does indeed what it's intended to do: dig and fold. I haven't had much use for the pick so I can't say how well it tears up ground. The whole head of it is a bit wobbly though. The pivot is simply a rivet and isn't as durable as I'd like it to be. But it hasn't broken yet so I guess it's fine.
Not bad for the price but I'd opt for a genuine surplus digging tool instead.

my 10 year old grandson was very pleased with shovel. which we first used at the crater of diamonds state park in arkansas.
