Located in: SURPLUS - Genuine Issue, MU - Military Uniforms & BDU Sets
The East German Border patrol unit wore these when stationed to block the east and west borders of Germany. This historic jacket can be yours. It is a teal blue full length double breasted great coat. It has the standard German military silver pebbled buttons throughout the front. It is gray and poly-lined.There are two flap pockets at the waist and a decorative belt in the back. There is also a 20" pleat up the back for better movement. What is different about this greatcoat from the rest is that the wool/blend allows it to be warm and lighter weight than the others.

Comments about East German Great Coat:

First off, let me give some information that this site doesn't readily give: on mine, the liner is made of a velvety material (could be velvet or satin or silk- not sure). the jacket is about 46 inches long, and the colour on mine is closer to a blue-green than a light green, like in the photos. (there really should be more pictures, and a better technical description)

about me: I'm 5'4, 125 pounds, and the jacket is pretty good. the only thing keeping it from 5 stars is that I had to take it to a tailor to have the skirt trimmed to 42 inches. the sleeves are somewhat loose, but it allows for decent mobility. the garment wears better if you have something over it, but that's not required, as it fits me pretty well.

another thing to note: it stands up to rain VERY well. water practically beads off of it, only soaking in if it has the chance to sit. coupled with the fact that it keeps my legs WARM & DRY, it has proven to be invaluable during storms or cold spells.

one problem: the jacket has somewhat broad shoulders, which may not fit everyone. good if you live in a place that requires a few layers, not so good if you're very thin.

this jacket comes highly recommended.

Amazing historic value, yet practical.

Comments about East German Great Coat:

I use the product for cold weather. Where I live, it gets very cold in the winter, sometimes down to -35 (-20 Fahrenheit), and for that kind of weather, this is a great coat, no pun intended.

It's very stylish looking. You can wear this down the street, and only very hard-core history buffs would know what you're actually wearing. The difference between this and a normal coat is this is a surplus soldier's coat - it's rugged and much more durable than most others ont he market.

Just amazing. I wear it with the soviet Ushanka I bought off this website (though it's called a Yshanka here). They match perfectly.
